It would seem that this is where the story should have come to an end, without really having time to really begin, but PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds intervened. Seeing how wildly popular this battle royale is, Epic Games decided to make their own. But they did not have time for full-fledged development, because in a few years this trend could easily fade away. And here Fortnite came in handy.

Interesting fact: The creators of PUBG did not appreciate this step and filed a lawsuit against Epic Games, but six months later the lawsuit was withdrawn. There are rumors that the intervention of the Chinese company Tencent, which owns shares of both sides, led to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

The glory of Fortnite: Battle Royale easily eclipsed the very existence of its predecessor. Epic Games has found a real goldmine! No one could have predicted how successful this idea would be. Like how long it might last. A month, a year, maybe a decade? Epic Games showed amazing foresight (by the standards of most companies) in deciding to use the funds they received to create something that would bring them even greater profits in the long run. I have no idea when this will happen, no idea who will close due to this recession, but it’s more interesting and useful than sitting on Steam for decades, visiting Uplay and Origin from time to time. If something like this has to happen to change this situation, even through bad launchers and the arrogance of publishers, I’m all for it.
